Johor adopts new wildlife safeguards

Johor is implementing a dual strategy to manage human-wildlife conflicts, combining community training with advanced technology. According to State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, the new Community Wildlife Protection module will train residents in high-risk areas to identify animals, apply safety measures, and report sightings properly.

Simultaneously, the Wildlife and National Parks Department will increase its use of drones equipped with thermal imaging for surveillance. This technology enables rapid and safe monitoring of large animals like elephants across extensive areas, especially after dark. These efforts will be supported by integrated night patrols conducted with other security agencies and the newly trained community groups.
