Johor tightens border passport checks

Authorities in Johor have reinforced operating procedures at border crossings with Singapore after motorcyclists bypassed immigration controls. Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh confirmed the tightened measures at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex facilities following a viral video of the incident. He stated that the manual passport inspection process, which takes over thirty seconds per person, was circumvented.

He encouraged travelers to use the faster MyBorderPass or MyNIlSe electronic gates, which process entry in under five seconds. Mohamad Fazli noted that Malaysian registrations for MyNIlSe lag behind Singaporean registrations. While acknowledging that congestion is sometimes unavoidable, he insisted that enforcement must prevent individuals from avoiding passport validation. The Border Control and Protection Agency recently detained several Malaysians for leaving the country without having their passports stamped.
