Josephine Mutongi apologizes after illegal fundraiser

Social media influencer Josephine Mutongi apologized after Zimbabwe Republic Police accused her of illegal fundraising following the Kuwadzana Extension tragedy. Three children were found dead in a car trunk on Friday after disappearing earlier that week. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned against exploiting the families' grief through unauthorized fundraising campaigns.

Mutongi organized donations through mobile money accounts without obtaining the required police clearance for the collection drive. Authorities shut down her accounts after the bereaved families disowned her efforts. She claimed ignorance of the legal requirements, but the police rejected her explanations of good intentions.

The influencer collected approximately $335 before distributing funds to affected families. She stated her goal was to support mourners through their difficult period. Police confirmed no evidence supported claims about missing body parts from the victims' remains.
