Judge Lawrence self-adjourns in Coral Spring

Trelawny Parish Court Judge Ruth Lawrence died on Tuesday after being found unresponsive at her Coral Spring residence and later declared dead at Falmouth Public General Hospital. Police are investigating the death as a suspected suicide, but Acting Commissioner of Police Glendon Miller emphasized the inquiry remains in early stages. Lawrence was discovered by her husband around 7:50 p.m., and authorities reported no visible physical injuries on her body.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes mourned the loss of Lawrence, who began her judicial career in Westmoreland courts in 1997 and became a Resident Magistrate in 2009. She served across multiple parishes and held leadership positions in the Children's Court and Western Regional Family Court. Sykes praised her unwavering commitment to justice and compassion throughout her distinguished career. Superintendent Jermaine Anglin leads the investigative team, which conducts forensic examinations and gathers statements from witnesses.
