Justice Gridlock as AG Halts Cases During Lawyer Sit In

Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda asked courts to delay all cases with his office lawyers. Justice Ministry attorneys started a workplace protest for better jobs. The striking lawyers cannot show up to court hearings. Nyirenda sent letters to High Court and other courts asking for delays. Ruth Mputeni from the court system confirmed they received his request.

The lawyer strike stops many court cases across Malawi. Justice work slows down because government attorneys refuse to work. Courts must decide how to handle the delays. The protest creates problems for people waiting for legal decisions. Officials need to fix the lawyer complaints to restart court business.
