Juventus tempts Porto loyalist Joao Mario for first stint abroad

Juventus secured the services of Portuguese defender Joao Mario from Porto through a transfer agreement lasting until June 2030. The 25-year-old fullback will experience professional football outside Portugal for the first time. Mario developed through Porto's youth system after joining their academy at eight years of age. His progression through various levels culminated in first-team appearances totaling 181 matches. During these contests, he contributed five goals and 25 assists across all competitions.

Porto witnessed Mario claim nine domestic championships during his tenure with the club. The defender participated in their UEFA Youth League triumph during 2019. Portugal national team managers selected Mario for international duty beginning in November 2023 against Liechtenstein. His consistent performances at club level earned recognition from national team selectors. Juventus adds defensive depth through this acquisition of the experienced Portuguese international.
