Kabila Joins Rebel Ranks in Goma Shock

Former Congo President Joseph Kabila reached rebel areas that fighters control around Goma. The M23 rebel group announced Tuesday that Kabila arrived at their military bases. They called him a respected leader and soldier of the people. Kabila promised to help liberate the country from the current government's control. His appearance supports armed groups fighting President Felix Tshisekedi's forces.

Congo lawmakers removed Kabila's legal protection just days before his rebel visit. Courts want to charge him with treason and war crimes for backing insurgent movements. Government officials called his actions an open rebellion against the republic. Justice Minister Constant Mutamba warned that Kabila was undermining peace efforts across eastern regions. Leaders are considering military responses and asset seizures against the former president.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni blocked Kabila from crossing the border into Congo territory. Museveni supports the Tshisekedi government and joint military operations against rebel fighters. The Ugandan leader distrusts Kabila and wants to protect growing trade relationships. After the border rejection, Kabila found different routes to reach Goma. His son warned that Kabila would never become president again.
