Kagame burns rubber in Baku, eyes Rwanda F1 in 2027

Rwanda's President Paul Kagame concluded his Azerbaijan visit by witnessing the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Baku. The three-day diplomatic mission highlighted Rwanda's determination to establish Africa's first Formula 1 circuit since South Africa hosted the event in 1993. Kagame aims to construct a permanent racing facility near the planned Bugesera International Airport. The Dutch Grand Prix departure after 2026 creates potential opportunities for Rwanda's 2027 racing debut. Formula 1 leadership previously met with Rwandan representatives to evaluate the African proposal.

President Kagame and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev formalized five bilateral agreements during the state visit. These partnerships address agricultural development, educational exchanges, aviation services, commercial trade, and government service improvements. Kagame examined Azerbaijan's ASAN public service centers that deliver integrated citizen services across 28 locations. Rwanda's Development Board established cooperation frameworks with ASAN to implement similar citizen service systems. The agreements strengthen diplomatic relationships between the East African nation and the Caucasus republic.
