Kagame, Tshisekedi sign historic peace deal in DC

Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo just signed a peace deal in Washington with Trump playing mediator, and President Paul Kagame and President Felix Tshisekedi agreed to dismantle armed groups while pulling Rwandan forces out of Congolese territory. The pact tackles the FDLR rebel situation that has been Kigali's excuse for getting involved in eastern Congo since the mid-90s, and it sets up monitoring systems with regional backup to make sure everyone follows through.

Trump said this ends one of the planet's longest conflicts and called both leaders courageous while joking they would spend their time hugging and taking economic advantage of America, as everyone else does. He promised US support for mineral agreements that let American companies tap into critical resources. African leaders like William Ruto and Joao Lourenco showed up and praised the breakthrough, but Burundi's president warned that actually implementing the deal is gonna be the real test after decades of war that destabilized the whole Great Lakes region.
