Kagwe launches milk coolers to boost dairy farming in Embu County

The Kenyan government has distributed 13 milk coolers to dairy farmer groups in Embu County, an initiative valued at nearly 78 million shillings. This project aims to assist over 3,900 local farmers by enabling the daily aggregation of 25,000 liters of milk, significantly reducing post-harvest losses. Officials stated that the coolers will improve milk quality and open opportunities for value-added products.

This distribution is part of a broader national program to install 230 bulk coolers across 40 counties. The government anticipates the project will increase the country's daily milk chilling capacity by 475,000 liters. The Ministry of Agriculture reports that these efforts are designed to strengthen the dairy value chain and stabilize farmer incomes.
