Ambassador Farid Kaliisa presented diplomatic credentials to President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema during an official ceremony at Gabon's State House in Libreville. Uganda's representative delivered greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to his Gabonese counterpart. President Oligui Nguema welcomed the ambassador and praised the establishment of formal diplomatic ties between both nations. The Gabonese leader emphasized how his August 2024 state visit to Uganda created strong foundations for future partnerships. He encouraged Ambassador Kaliisa to build upon existing agreements across multiple sectors.
The diplomatic exchange reinforced bilateral cooperation in agriculture, defense, health, and commerce. Uganda exported goods valued at $612,000 to Gabon during 2023, while receiving $167,000 worth of imports from the Central African nation. Both countries maintain ambassador-level diplomatic representation and continue developing trade relationships. A comprehensive cooperation framework agreement remains under negotiation to formalize partnerships in various fields. This agreement will establish the first Joint Permanent Commission and facilitate business investment forums between Uganda and Gabon.
