Kaliisa takes Museveni's mission to Libreville

Farid Kaliisa received official recognition Monday as Uganda's ambassador to Gabon during a ceremony with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in Libreville. The diplomat delivered President Yoweri Museveni's greetings while emphasizing expanded partnerships across multiple sectors. Both leaders referenced productive discussions from Oligui Nguema's August 2024 state visit to Kampala regarding agricultural development and defense matters. Kaliisa committed to implementing previous agreements and exploring fresh collaborative opportunities.

Uganda established its resident diplomatic mission in Libreville during 2023 as part of broader Central African engagement efforts. Trade between the nations reached $779,000 in 2023, with Uganda exporting aluminum and cereals while importing medical equipment from Gabon. Officials prepare comprehensive cooperation frameworks addressing energy, security and private sector development. The partnership provides Uganda access to regional markets through Gabon's membership in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa.
