Kampala chaos as politicians cripple police CCTV with reckless campaign posters

Cops are hunting down politicians who trashed the city's surveillance system while plastering their campaign ads around town. The fiber optic cables that keep police cameras running got wrecked when candidates slapped massive posters right on top of the sensitive equipment. Areas like Kawempe, Nansana, Kakiri and parts of Wakiso district lost their camera coverage after the advertising blitz went wrong. Officers opened case file GEF 052/2025 to track down which political hopefuls caused the mess ahead of the 2026 elections. A senior ICT cop says the candidates probably had no clue they were wrecking vital infrastructure when they hung their promotional materials.

Campaign fever has politicians sticking their faces everywhere from electric poles to government buildings as the election race heats up. Some ads ended up blocking critical surveillance gear that cops rely on to monitor the streets. The Kazo-Angola Zone took a particularly hard hit when poster campaigns severed important cable connections. Police documented the damage scene and collected the offending advertisements as evidence. Nobody has been arrested yet despite the widespread disruption to security operations.

Patrick Onyango from Kampala Metropolitan Police admits he needs more details about the investigation but warns politicians to check with local authorities before mounting their publicity campaigns. The incident shows how political ambition can accidentally sabotage public safety systems during election season.
