Kanana learners' pathetic bed lie shames North West

The North West Department of Education condemned students who staged photographs on bed frames without mattresses at a revision program held on Sunday. Officials said learners deliberately removed bedding at the Itereleng Skills Training Center in Vaal Reefs to falsely suggest inadequate accommodation. The images spread across social platforms and prompted concerns from parents about conditions at the facility.

Education MEC Viola Motsumi stated that the venue had sufficient mattresses for all participants from Kanana Secondary School, Mathlaleng Secondary School, and Mmonkeng Secondary School. Department officials organized the session to help underperforming institutions prepare for matriculation examinations starting in late October. The three schools showed low pass rates in previous years.

Motsumi assured families that students received proper care and safe lodging throughout the program. Spokesperson Vuyo Mantshule said the center has hosted similar academic camps since 2019 without problems. The ministry urged citizens to verify information before sharing content about student welfare on social networks.
