Kanifing tailors stitch unity, aim for fashion fame

Local tailors in the Kanifing Municipality just held their first major meeting in two years. The association's president, Modou Salieu Jallow, aims to make tailors more visible. Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda told them that unity is key, quoting that together they can achieve more. He suggested fashion shows and building local brands to compete globally, using Zara as an example.

A program manager, Awa Jobarteh, mentioned this is The Gambia's first regional tailors group. She asked for a dedicated training school, noting available but unused equipment. An official from the national arts center also pledged support for preserving cultural style and craft.

Most executive positions were filled without opposition, including Jallow's re-election as president. He stated he would only seek one more term and called on the mayor to create more opportunities for tailors in the area.
