Kano elders visit Mama Ida Odinga to mourn Raila

Elders from the Kano region in Kisumu traveled to Bondo on Saturday to comfort Ida Odinga after her husband, Raila's, death. Community leaders praised the former prime minister as a unifying figure whose decades of activism transformed Kenya's democracy and inspired marginalized populations nationwide. Ida accepted their sympathy at the family compound with relatives present.

The Luo community completed mourning rituals on Thursday at the Opoda farm residence. Raila Junior received ceremonial shaving and traditional clothing before carrying a shield and spear through a symbolic battle ceremony. Community members accompanied him through the Tero Buru ritual meant to chase away harmful spirits.

Senator Oburu Oginga confirmed the ceremony transferred family leadership to Raila Junior under Luo customs. The politician's son will receive guidance from his mother as he heads the household. President William Ruto attended the burial services for Raila the previous Sunday.
