Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov has outlined new regulations for youth fares on public transport. He stated that all children under 14 can now travel for free within cities, provided they obtain a free travel card verifying their age. For journeys outside city limits, children under seven travel entirely free, while those aged seven to fourteen receive a fifty percent discount on intercity tickets.
The Minister of Transport also confirmed enhanced discounts for students. He explained that young people aged fourteen to sixteen are eligible for a fifty percent price reduction on season tickets for both urban and intercity travel. Karadjov noted that these changes were developed after reviewing similar policies in nations with advanced public transit systems, including Austria and the Czech Republic. He added that the measures aim to encourage public transport use from a young age, which would produce long-term environmental benefits.
