Kaur school principal calls for urgent infrastructure upgrade

The head of Kaur Upper Basic School in Lower Saloum has urged government officials and development partners to invest in facility upgrades that would enhance conditions for students and staff. Principal Lamin Nyangado highlighted the need for improved infrastructure at a recent tree-planting event hosted by Women Initiative Gambia. He emphasized that aging classrooms and administrative buildings require complete renovation to support effective instruction.

Nyangado pointed out that the Central River Region institution ranks among the oldest in the area and has produced graduates who hold prominent roles in government and civil society organizations. He requested that former students contribute to school improvements. The principal identified missing staff housing, insufficient classroom space for enrollment numbers, and inadequate perimeter security as pressing concerns.

Isatou Ceesay serves as executive director of Women Initiative Gambia and attended the school in the late 1980s. She noted that most structures have remained unaltered since her student years. Ceesay stressed the importance of constructing modern facilities that benefit educators and learners. The organization's tree-planting program aims to build environmental awareness and climate resilience among students in Central River Region schools.
