Kazembe says no go for protests as vendors play it safe

Kazembe Kazembe from Zimbabwe told everyone he plans to shut down any protests on March 31. He says police will attack what he calls "terrorism" with full force. His hard words came after fires burned businesses linked to Zanu PF money men Kuda Tagwirei and Wicknell Chivayo.

No one agrees on what should happen next on social media. Many people feel stuck between joining protests or staying safe at home. Since protest leaders have not shared clear plans, fear has spread across the country.

Market workers at Mbare spoke to the AfroGazette about their fears yesterday. Instead of keeping things in market storage like they usually do, many rushed to pack up early. They fear thieves might take their goods if the streets turn wild.

Sarah Mutizwa, who sells veggies, said: "I hear mixed messages about protests happening or not. Past troubles hurt many shops badly. I must play it safe by closing early and taking my veggies home today."

John Marufu also sells at the market and said, "This isn't about making money anymore but staying alive. I put my heart into my business and can't watch it vanish in one day. I pray for calm since times feel hard enough already."

Kazembe made it clear that security teams stand ready to crush any problems. "Our country rejects all forms of terror and fighting. A tiny group with foreign friends wants to make trouble here," he firmly stated.

He promised to catch lawbreakers fast. Police teams are searching for the people who started fires in Harare, Goromonzi, and Sanyati. They work with other groups, like the Central Vehicle Registry, to track down these fire starters.

Kazembe said protest leaders just want to steal during chaos instead of pushing real change. He asked all citizens to avoid marches completely. "Stay away from calls to make trouble. Peace must last through all days ahead," he declared.

The minister finished by saying the government must defend Zimbabwe without ever saying sorry for it. With armed forces ready and leaders taking strong stands against protests, battles might break out between state forces and those against them.
