Kenya aims for stars, equator launchpad in sight

Kenya is trying to get into the space game, for real. Their Treasury just put out a call for advisors to figure out how to build a commercial spaceport. The Kenya Space Agency is running point, with a site eyed near Kipini along the coast. The whole idea hinges on using a public-private partnership model.

They're leaning hard on their geographic luck, being on the equator. That spot gives a boost for launches, needing less fuel and making it simpler to park satellites in certain orbits. Right now, Africa has zero active spaceports, which means countries have to ship their satellites elsewhere at a crazy cost. This facility would try to fix that. The hired advisor needs to run the numbers on everything from technical specs to environmental impact, plus design concepts and what kind of rockets could work.

This isn't a solo mission. The plan requires working with a bunch of agencies like the Defense, Civil Aviation, and the environmental authority. The end vision is a hub at Malindi for satellite launches and other space biz, hoping to pull in international deals for things like earth observation and telecom. The advisor application window closes early next year, which is the next concrete step in this pretty wild plan.
