Kenya braces for more floods as rains pound nation

Kenya's weather service anticipates wet conditions across multiple regions through the coming days, with precipitation expected from Tuesday through next Monday. The forecast indicates showers will affect areas near the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, coastal zones, southeastern lowlands and northeastern territories.

Daytime heat will persist along the coast and in northern sections where readings may exceed 30 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological officials. Nighttime cooling could push temperatures under 10 degrees in highland zones east of the Rift Valley and near Mount Kilimanjaro. Western highland areas face morning sunshine followed by afternoon thunderstorms that will intensify as days progress. Northwestern territories should see mostly clear skies during daylight hours with possible late-week rain.

Recent precipitation caused deaths and displacement after triggering landslides and flooding in several counties. Interior ministry officials said on Saturday that seasonal rains have resulted in fatalities and property damage. Last week's heaviest accumulation reached 184 millimeters at a Trans Nzoia location, while Machakos received 130 millimeters within one day. Meteorologists urged residents and local governments to track daily bulletins as weather patterns develop.
