Kenya, China deepen military ties at Nairobi event marking PLA anniversary

Military leaders from Kenya and China celebrated stronger defense partnerships during the People's Liberation Army's 98th anniversary at Beijing's embassy. Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan emphasized her nation's commitment to global peacekeeping through advanced military capabilities. She connected China's armed forces to broader international stability goals while promoting multilateral cooperation. Kenya Army Commander David Keter praised the professional relationship between both militaries. The partnership has produced significant training opportunities for Kenyan personnel.

More than one thousand Kenyan officers have completed Chinese military programs since 2012. These educational exchanges focus on counterterrorism operations, emergency response protocols, and maritime security measures. Such training addresses Kenya's regional challenges against groups like Al-Shabaab. Cultural exchanges between military personnel strengthen bilateral trust beyond equipment transfers. Both nations pledged expanded cooperation through joint anti-piracy operations and African Union peacekeeping missions.
