Kenya's education boss just caved and extended a big school transfer deadline. Officials gave families more time to move grade ten students into preferred senior schools after major parent complaints. Many children were placed in institutions far from home or below their academic level. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the extension allows completion of these transfers.
The process uses an automated national system called KEMIS managed by ICT staff. Ogamba claimed the system worked smoothly for most learners among the over one million in this pioneer class. Transfers require several levels of approval linked to the ministry headquarters. The government pushed for one hundred percent transition, with officials working through December on placements.
There are nine thousand five hundred senior schools nationwide, sorted into categories like academic track and accommodation type. Ogamba made these comments while visiting Kamahuha Girls High School, recently upgraded to national status. Its first admitted student came from Kilifi County, demonstrating its new reach. The government is building hundreds of new laboratories across the country.
