Kenya Govt Job Scam Stings While Oil Hell Lingers

Senators grilled Labor CS Alfred Mutua about overseas jobs this week. They asked hard questions about the Sh55,000 fee charged to people who pass job interviews. Members wanted clear answers about medical test costs at private clinics. Mutua said foreign countries pick these clinics after carefully checking them out. The government stopped the worker export program last December after many complaints.

A 2015 oil leak still hurts Thange village in Makueni County. The spill runs 15 feet deep beneath farms and homes. Local people face rising cancer rates and kidney problems from contaminated water. Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr told lawmakers the situation keeps getting worse. One senator warned the entire area might become impossible to live in without fast action.

Energy officials explained that they never directly cut geothermal power. Those choices happen at Kenya Power control centers based on grid needs. The country brings in electricity from Ethiopia during peak hours when solar panels sit idle. Different power sources enter the grid based on costs, contracts, and technical limits. Officials shared these facts during Senate committee meetings about recent power decisions.
