Kenya Moja MPs vow to fight for teachers' pay

Kenya Moja lawmakers pledged to advocate for teacher benefits on Sunday after celebrations at Kenya Science Campus in Nairobi highlighted government neglect of educators. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna criticized Junior Secondary School instructors earning 18,000 shillings monthly, and he said the parliamentary caucus would push for salary increases through bicameral legislation. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino called teachers the worst-paid civil servants, and he supported autonomy for JSS educators who currently report to primary school administrators.

Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo opposed transferring teachers from Minet insurance to the Social Health Authority, and he questioned why the government wanted to move educators into what he called a failing system. Bumula MP Wanami Wamboka warned that education mismanagement threatens national stability, but Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo urged teachers to take action ahead of the upcoming elections.
