Kenya, New Brunswick forge deal to tackle paramedic gap

Kenya and Canada have initiated a partnership aimed at addressing New Brunswick’s shortage of paramedics, while also providing job opportunities for young Kenyans. Senior officials from the Ministry of Labour met leaders from the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Canada, to outline a framework leading to a Memorandum of Understanding. Labour Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime led the Kenyan delegation, while the Canadian side included Executive Director Chris Hood and Deputy President Jordan Baker.

New Brunswick requires approximately 8,000 new paramedics annually due to a high attrition rate and an aging workforce. The partnership introduces training pathways for Kenyan recruits and upskilling programs for healthcare workers, while also supporting Kenya’s paramedic training capacity.
