Kenya Railways bans tools on SGR trains

Kenya Railways just dropped a reminder that a surprisingly long list of everyday items will get you stopped at SGR stations.

Tools are a hard no
  • Hammers, pliers, and screwdrivers are banned from passenger coaches.
  • Confiscated tools get handed to Kenya Railways security.
  • Bicycles are also blocked due to operational limitations.
  • Station management can advise cyclists before travel.
Aerosols and grooming products banned
  • Hair sprays, body sprays, and sunscreen are all restricted.
  • Insecticides and shaving cream fall under the same ban.
  • Pepper spray is strictly prohibited on trains and at stations.
Zero tolerance for dangerous goods
  • Firearms need advanced coordination with the security team.
  • Explosives, fireworks, and flares are completely forbidden.
  • Lighters, matchboxes, and all fire-starting tools are banned.
  • Flammable liquids like petrol, kerosene, and paints are blocked.
Other restricted items worth noting
  • Lithium-battery cases and pyrotechnic materials are forbidden.
  • Wildlife trophies like horns, hides, and cowrie shells are banned.
  • Live animals, pets, and controlled drugs are all prohibited.
  • Luggage caps out at 30 kg and 1.6 meters total dimensions.
