Kenya's Kalonzo shuns Ruto-Raila unity job over Gen Z deaths

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka disclosed that opposition figures received invitations to participate in Kenya's unity administration. President William Ruto and Raila Odingo sealed their partnership on March 7, 2025, at Kenyatta International Convention Centre through formal agreements promoting national dialogue. The coalition reshaped political boundaries as former opposition members accepted cabinet appointments. Musyoka rejected participation due to unresolved national concerns. He demanded government apologies for fatalities during youth-led demonstrations against the administration.

Five prominent Raila supporters gained ministerial positions after the unity formation. Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, Opiyo Wandayi, John Mbadi, and Beatrice Askul assumed leadership roles across various government departments. Musyoka criticized Raila's decision during a June 30, 2025, media appearance, claiming betrayal after supporting him through multiple elections. The Wiper leader accused his former ally of abandoning coalition partners. Ruto characterized the broad-based government as divinely guided despite mounting public criticism over police violence and the ten-point reform agreement addressing extrajudicial actions.
