Khalid Hossain urges imams in Khulna to fight social ills as model mosque opens

Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain addressed religious leaders at the opening of Khulna City Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center. The Religious Affairs Adviser urged imams to address social issues through their Friday prayer sermons. The government plans to establish job security and monthly wages for mosque staff through upcoming management policies. Officials distributed nearly four crore taka last year to support religious workers across Bangladesh.

The new facility represents one of 564 planned model mosques nationwide. Authorities have finished building 350 structures while continuing work on the remaining sites. These centers promote community unity and combat violence against women and children. Religious education programs for prisoners will begin with instruction from Islamic scholars.

The 17-crore facility offers prayer spaces for different groups and disability accommodation. Additional features provide imam training, research centers, and guest lodging. Hossain distributed zakat fund payments totaling 1.14 lakh taka among 14 recipients during the ceremony. Local officials and leaders of the Islamic Foundation attended the divisional conference.
