Kibra Fire Fiasco Leaves 300 Families Shaking

A massive fire swept through Mukungu village on Wednesday afternoon. The blaze destroyed homes and left hundreds of families without shelter. Property worth millions burned to the ground. Over 300 households lost everything they owned. Emergency workers rushed to help victims escape the flames.

Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku arrived Friday morning to see the damage firsthand. He promised government support for all affected families. Workers delivered food, bedding and other supplies the same day. Ruku said officials want to prevent future disasters. The government plans long-term solutions for fire safety.

Officials are building affordable houses across informal settlements. These projects target areas like Kibra, Mukuru kwa Njenga, and Korogocho. President William Ruto leads these housing efforts. The new homes will protect families from fire dangers. Better construction means safer living conditions.

The Wednesday fire started around 6 pm and spread quickly. Dense housing helped flames jump between structures. Water shortages made fighting the fire harder. The first fire truck ran out of water fast. Crews called for backup supplies urgently.

Kenya Red Cross teams responded immediately to help residents. Nairobi Fire Brigade worked alongside police and community members. Everyone worked together to stop the spreading flames. Senator Karen Nyamu and MP Peter Ochieng joined the relief efforts. The disaster shows how common fires are in crowded neighborhoods.
