Kimmel show pulled as Disney+ cancellations spike

In September 2025, Disney+ and Hulu faced a sharp rise in U.S. subscriber cancellations after ABC briefly removed “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from its lineup. Data from Antenna showed Disney+ lost about 3 million users and Hulu lost around 4.1 million. Monthly churn rates doubled—Disney+ rose from 4% to 8%, and Hulu from 5% to 10%.

The surge in cancellations followed Kimmel’s removal on September 17 after he made controversial remarks about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Although new signups also climbed that month, departures far exceeded normal levels.

The close timing between the show’s suspension and the spike in cancellations suggests a possible boycott. While individual reasons for canceling remain unclear, the data points to a strong link between the two events.
