Kingston Fury Renegade G5 SSD Ready for Speed Showdown

Someone leaked details about Kingston's new Fury Renegade G5 SSD drives. These drives run on PCIe 5.0 technology and reach amazing speeds - 14,800 MB/s for reading data and 14,000 MB/s for writing it. These numbers put Kingston right up against Samsung's fast 9100 PRO Series, which costs a lot of money. You can buy these Kingston drives with 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB of space. They come in the standard NVMe M.2 2280 size that fits most computers.

The heart of these drives comes from their Silicon Motion SM2508 controller. Kingston chose this part because it works perfectly with PCIe Gen 5 x4 NVMe 2.0 storage. The company released this controller toward the end of 2024. It uses less power than older models but still moves data super fast. Tests have shown it can read data at 14.5 GB per second, making it one of the fastest controllers you can find in SSDs made for regular people.

We don't know exactly when Kingston plans to sell these drives or how much they'll cost. But from what leaked, these drives look ready to shake up the high-end storage market. The specs suggest Kingston wants to take on fancy brands like Samsung. They seem to offer almost the same speed as those expensive drives but probably at better prices. We'll need to wait for official announcements to compare these drives against other fast storage options.
