Kipyegon and Chebet break world records at Eugene Diamond League

Kenyan runners smashed world records at the Diamond League track meet. Faith Kipyegon raced to a stunning 1500m victory with a time of 3 minutes 48.68 seconds. The 31-year-old champion destroyed her previous record and left competitors far behind. Beatrice Chebet also crushed the 5000m world record with her blazing 13:58.06 finish. The 25-year-old speedster cut more than two seconds off the old mark.

Eugene hosted the star-packed event featuring Olympic champions and record holders from around the globe. Chebet told reporters she came to Oregon specifically targeting a world record performance. The Kenyan athletes delivered exactly what fans wanted to see. Matt Hudson-Smith grabbed the spotlight for Britain when he won the men's 400m race. His season-best 44.10 time beat two American runners.

British sprinter Zharnel Hughes finished second behind Jamaican Kishane Thompson. Hughes ran 9.91 seconds but could not catch Thompson who clocked 9.85. Jemma Reekie placed seventh during the women's 800m competition. Dina Asher-Smith also struggled and finished seventh during her 100m race. American runners dominated several events throughout the evening.

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis easily won his event at 6.00 meters. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone held off fellow Americans to win the 400m hurdles. The Diamond League series moves to Monaco next before reaching London. Track fans can catch the finals during late August before the World Championships start.
