Vazrazhdane Chairman Kostadin Kostadinov blamed municipal and state authorities for three flood deaths in Elenite on Friday, and he compared the disaster to a 2014 Varna flood that killed 13 people in the Asparuhovo district. Kostadinov stated that both tragedies resulted from construction in drainage ravines and dry valleys that transform into rivers after heavy rainfall. Authorities tolerated illegal construction in Varna's ravine areas, and officials approved building permits in unsuitable Elenite locations.
The party leader demanded accountability from administrators responsible for approving construction in flood-prone zones. Kostadinov described the deaths as consequences of administrative crimes committed by state or municipal officials who authorized development in dangerous areas. He emphasized that dry valleys remain waterless most of the year, but become deadly waterways after significant precipitation events strike the region.
