Kyiv SBU busts Chinese spy father-son team in Neptune missile scheme

Ukraine's security forces caught a Chinese father and son red-handed trying to steal secret navy missile technology from the war-torn country. The SBU security service nabbed the pair in Kyiv as they attempted to smuggle classified documents about Ukraine's deadly Neptune missile system back to China. The 24-year-old son had been studying at a technical university in the capital before turning into a spy. His father flew in from China to help coordinate the illegal operation. Both men face serious espionage charges that could result in a 15-year prison sentence.

The Neptune missile system became famous after Ukraine used it to sink Russia's prized warship Moskva in the early days of the conflict. Relations between Ukraine and China have turned sour as Kyiv accuses Beijing of helping Russia with weapons and technology for drone attacks. Ukraine claims dozens of Chinese citizens have joined Russian forces on the battlefield. China angrily denied these allegations as false and reckless. Beijing and Moscow signed a partnership deal just before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and have grown closer ever since.
