KZN tops 2025 matric rankings with 90.6% pass rate

KZN just snatched the matric crown from its rival province. The coastal region posted a 90.6 percent pass rate, beating the previous leader. Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli quickly praised the collective effort behind the score. This performance helped push the national average to a record high. Over nine hundred thousand students took the final exams this cycle.

The provincial education chief credited teachers, unions, and parents for the jump. He called it a win for unified governance and disciplined leadership. The opposition IFP party also celebrated the student achievement. This outcome flipped the rankings from the prior assessment period.

The Free State province followed closely in second place. Gauteng, North West, and the Western Cape filled out the top five spots. Every region achieved a pass rate above eighty-four percent. The education minister acknowledged steady nationwide improvements during the announcement.

A special ceremony at a Durban convention center will honor top performers. Higher pass rates mean more graduates qualify for university or diploma programs. Officials admit persistent challenges in rural schools and resource distribution remain. They also stress the need to support learners who did not pass.

The minister labeled the national result a proud moment but warned against complacency. Students can collect their individual marks soon from their schools. Options for reviewing grades or rewriting exams are available. The premier framed the success as proof that collaborative work brings results.
