Latabai gets a new home in Dhule with PMAY

A Dhule resident has described how the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana enabled her to escape decades of rental housing and financial insecurity. Santosh Choudhary received government assistance totaling approximately 100,000 rupees through the program, beginning in 2016, which allowed her to construct permanent housing after years of struggling with limited income.

The beneficiary expressed gratitude for gaining not just physical shelter but also stability and dignity through the initiative. Thousands of women across Maharashtra have similarly benefited from the housing program targeting economically disadvantaged families.

The rural component of the scheme, operating under the Ministry of Rural Development since April 2016, provides permanent dwellings with basic amenities to homeless households and those living in temporary or deteriorating structures. The Union Cabinet has authorized continued implementation through 2029, aiming to build an additional 20 million houses. Beneficiaries are selected using socioeconomic census information and validated by village assemblies.
