Lawyer in New Scandal Over Zimasco Takeover

Lawyer Wilson Manase has landed in fresh legal trouble. Mining company Zimasco accuses him of helping someone illegally take over their business. They filed papers with the Law Society of Zimbabwe and Judicial Services Commission about this. The papers name Manase, lawyer Valentine Kwande, and Judge Joel Mambara as people who helped businessman Shepherd Tundiya try to grab their company.

Judge Mambara signed an order that wrongly handed control to Tundiya's company, Avim Investments. The order had a big mistake - it mentioned "Sinosteel Zimasco," a company that doesn't exist, instead of the real Zimasco Pvt Ltd. Even with this clear error, Manase and his friends tried to take Zimasco's bank accounts and run the company themselves.

Ecobank refused to let them touch the accounts based on the flawed order. Then Kwande rushed to file papers asking to "fix" the court order without telling Zimasco anything about it. Judge Mambara approved these changes in just a few hours. Zimasco CEO John Musekiwa called their actions criminal and dishonorable. He said they all worked together behind closed doors. Zimasco has asked courts to block the takeover fast.

This adds to Manase's growing pile of legal problems. Earlier this year, a Harare court told police to arrest him when he skipped a hearing for a separate $3 million fraud case. In that mess, Manase and Marshall Mutandwa Shadaya allegedly created fake legal papers. They made up a will, divorce papers, and death certificate for a woman named Fiona Dambudzo Shadaya.

People caught on when they spotted problems with the documents. The will had different dates on it, and the divorce records were completely made up. Langton Nyatsambo, who was married to Fiona, discovered the fraud when he tried to claim her property after she died. He learned someone had changed legal records to cut him out of his rightful inheritance. Zimasco has asked officials to look into what they call a clear abuse of legal processes.

Legal experts say these repeated claims against the famous lawyer raise serious questions about ethics in Zimbabwe's courts and legal world.
