LeBron James Exercises $52.6M Option to Rejoin Lakers for Next Season

LeBron James will return to the Los Angeles Lakers for another season. The basketball star decided to use his player option worth $52.6 million. He wants to chase his fifth NBA championship with the team. James turns 41 years old in December and will play his 23rd season. Multiple news outlets reported his decision on Sunday.

Agent Rich Paul spoke about James wanting to compete for a title. The Lakers are building their team for future success. James wants a real chance to win another championship. He plans to make every remaining season count toward his legacy. The Lakers support his goals and want what works best for him.

James holds the NBA record for most career points scored. He could break more records during the upcoming season. The veteran needs 50 more games to set the all-time mark for regular season appearances. Robert Parish currently holds that record with 1,611 games played from 1976 to 1997. James would also surpass Vince Carter for most seasons played.

The superstar recently shared a workout video on social media. He had been recovering from a left knee injury suffered during playoff action against Minnesota. James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game last season. His career numbers show 27.0 points, 7.4 assists and 7.5 rebounds per game. James has won NBA titles with Miami, Cleveland and Los Angeles.
