Lee Jung-hyun Home Tour Backfires as Viewers Feel Alienated

Actress Lee Jung-hyun appeared on KBS2's cooking show June 20 and showed viewers her expensive new home. The house featured a large living room and a children's room with a playground slide inside. Her kitchen impressed everyone with its six chairs around the dining table and a special bar area. She displayed a custom wooden cutting board made from rare Hinoki wood that measured 80 centimeters long. Lee even admitted she slept next to the cutting board on her first night because she loved how it smelled.

The actress revealed her biggest purchase was a professional cooking griddle she had wanted for three decades. Workers installed four powerful exhaust fans and rebuilt the entire kitchen ceiling just to fit the heavy equipment. Lee explained she had dreamed about having this type of restaurant-quality griddle since she was young. The expensive kitchen renovation took months to complete. She said the griddle was worth every penny she spent on it.

Many viewers felt angry about celebrities showing off their wealth on television. People wrote online that they were tired of seeing rich stars display their luxury homes. Some said these segments make regular people feel bad about their financial situations. Others pointed out that Lee owns more than 30 cutting boards worth several thousand dollars. Critics noted that amount equals what average workers earn in a full month.

Several other famous people have recently shown their expensive houses on different TV programs. Home prices in Seoul have reached over one billion Korean won for average apartments. Young families cannot afford to buy homes anymore because costs keep rising rapidly.
