Letwin Kadiyo Secures $32,500 in Divorce

Court Awards Woman $32,500 in Zimbabwe Divorce Case.

A Harare court granted Letwin Kadiyo $32,500 in her divorce from Kudakwashe Naison. Justice Emy Tsanga's ruling acknowledged the financial and personal sacrifices made in marriage.

The couple met in 2013 at Harare's Gulf Complex. She sold shoes, he dealt phones. They moved in together in 2014.

When Kadiyo became pregnant in 2015, she left her job and invested $500 in Naison's phone business. Their success led them to rent in the Avenues area. The pair secured a $35,000 phone deal with Chinese suppliers.

Their marriage produced assets, including a Haydon Park property, which they sold for $65,000, and a Honda Fit car. The relationship ended in March 2023. Kadiyo departed without any assets, leaving behind phone stock worth about $40,000.

She claimed equal partnership rights. Naison denied any business ties, stating he still owed money to suppliers. He said he gave her the car and helped start her wig business.

Justice Tsanga rejected Naison's defense. "She owned half of what they considered the marital home," the judge ruled. The court found it wrong for Naison to use their joint property sale money for his business debts.

The ruling orders Naison to pay within six months unless both agree to different terms in writing. The money represents half of their 877-square-meter Haydon Farm property sale.

This verdict supports equal partnership in marriage, counting both money and personal investment.
