Lightning kills one, injures 13 at Jackson Township archery range in New Jersey

Lightning killed a 61-year-old man and wounded 13 others at an archery facility in Jackson Township, New Jersey, on Wednesday evening. The strike occurred around 7:15 PM on Perrineville Road, prompting emergency crews to perform CPR on the fatal victim. Injured participants ranged from age 7 to 61, suffering burns and various health complaints. Multiple emergency agencies transported the wounded to area hospitals for treatment. Fire and medical teams from neighboring communities assisted with the response.

A similar lightning event struck 20 people near Lake Murray in South Carolina during June, though all survived their injuries. The National Weather Service reports lightning causes approximately 20 deaths annually across America and injures hundreds more. This year has already witnessed 12 lightning fatalities nationwide. The deaths occurred in New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, and Ohio. Some survivors of lightning strikes experience lasting neurological damage from their encounters.
