Lisa Sibanda sole African in Miss Cosmo Top 10

Well, here we go again. The pageant world delivered its usual dose of continental disappointment wrapped in a single success story. Lisa Sibanda from Zimbabwe managed to snag a Top 10 spot in the Miss Cosmo International competition, making her the only African finalist this year. The announcement got a shoutout from the Miss Universe South Africa account, which called her the sole-placing African queen.

The online reaction was the predictable mix of national pride and side eye. Some people, like public figure Fadzayi Mahere, celebrated the win for Zimbabwe. Others immediately questioned why only one African contestant made the cut. The official pageant account's response basically spelled out the unspoken rules, hinting that backing and business clout matter. They pointed out Zimbabwe's delegation has strong organizational support, while still praising Sibanda herself for being a lawyer.

Support for her leaned hard into her credentials and heritage, highlighting her Ndebele background and professional career. The South African pageant account, even without their own delegate in the running, played the solidarity card, calling her a sister. So now the whole continent's hopes are riding on one lawyer from Zimbabwe as the finals approach. Classic pageant drama.
