Liverpool Agree £40m Deal to Sign Left-Back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth

Liverpool bought defender Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for 40 million pounds. The 21-year-old Hungarian player will move to the Premier League champions after spending two years with Bournemouth. Bournemouth already found a replacement and signed Adrien Truffert from Rennes. Liverpool plans to spend even more money on Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record 116 million pounds. The team also bought Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong for 29.5 million pounds.

Kerkez started his career at Hungarian club Gyor before moving to AC Milan. He never played for Milan and transferred to AZ Alkmaar where he scored five goals and made seven assists during 52 games. AZ finished fourth that season and reached the Europa Conference League semifinals. Bournemouth signed him during summer 2023 when Liverpool director Richard Hughes worked for them. He played every league match last season and helped Bournemouth score their best Premier League finish.

The Hungarian defender will play alongside countryman Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool. His arrival creates uncertainty about current left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Liverpool wants to keep Robertson but may let Tsimikas leave for regular playing time elsewhere.
