A Bulawayo High Court judge sentenced a Lupane man to 18 years behind bars after he killed his former wife with an axe when he found her with another man. Justice Bongani Ndlovu convicted Prudence Nyoni, 32, of murder at the Hwange circuit for the April 15 death of Silethemba Moyo, 20, in Jibajiba Village.
Prosecutors said Nyoni broke into a hut at 4 a.m., where Moyo slept with her new partner. The attacker struck the woman repeatedly while her companion escaped unclothed. Her parents discovered the body wrapped in netting in a pool of blood after hearing the disturbance.
Nyoni fled but told a neighbor about the killing before swallowing poison in a suicide attempt. Medical staff at St Luke's Hospital treated him under police supervision. The judge said emotional conflicts never justify violent responses and noted the defendant showed limited remorse despite his confession.
