Mafoko accused of stealing workers' retirement cash

Security guards are getting stiffed on retirement cash while their bosses act innocent. Mafoko Security Patrol allegedly snatched pension contributions from staff salaries without depositing that cash into the Private Security Sector Provident Fund. The South African Federation of Trade Unions claims this company owes somewhere between R111 million and R330 million while still grabbing massive state contracts.

General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says this exploitation robs vulnerable guards of future safety nets. He insists these deductions vanished completely instead of supporting families during hard times. Vavi estimates the missing loot hits huge numbers, urging criminal prosecution because this behavior shreds trust within the labor system.

Critics demand officials scrap deals at spots like George Mukhari Hospital or the Gauteng Provincial Legislature immediately. Employees filed hundreds of grievances about missing paychecks and ghosted pension funds. Litigation revealed these practices breach the Pension Funds Act, leaving staff broke despite seeing money taken from their checks.

The Economic Freedom Fighters party wants Gauteng tenders cancelled to stop further worker abuse. While the National Bargaining Council urges rule compliance, Mafoko denies theft accusations and threatens to sue Vavi for defamation. They blame clients for payment delays, yet unions remain suspicious regarding unpaid guards at key sites.

Unpaid security personnel at national key points create major safety risks if they walk off the job. Unions want full repayment with interest alongside strict oversight reform. Everyone watches to see if the state forces accountability or lets this alleged heist continue unchecked against the labor force.
