Magistrate demands proof, death alone not enough

A magistrate in Soroti told the relatives of Dr. Godfrey Egwau to bring a legitimate death certificate by mid-month because the local council paperwork they turned in wasn't enough to make things official. The doc passed away at a cancer hospital in Kampala after getting hit with medical malpractice charges over a patient named Emmia Lucy Aluka, who died while giving birth.

When someone dies before their trial wraps up, the case usually gets thrown out under the legal system there, which wipes out both criminal consequences and any civil claims against them.
