Mahama Hits Illegal Miners Cleans Forests

President John Dramani Mahama told mining summit guests that illegal miners left eight forest reserves after government action. He spoke Monday and called the cleanup a major win for land restoration efforts. These forest areas had suffered heavy damage from galamsey mining activities. The clearance helps Ghana protect natural resources for coming generations. Mahama said this work forms part of a bigger plan to make mining more sustainable.

The President stressed that small miners are not state enemies but potential partners. Government wants to train and support them properly. River guards watch waterways to stop illegal mining activities. Officials plan to track all excavators to prevent unlawful use. Ghana has more excavators than other African countries combined.

New permit rules will control excavator imports and require valid licenses. Government works with small-scale miners to fix damaged mining areas. This approach shows Ghana wants both environmental protection and mining development. The President promised continued efforts to safeguard natural spaces. Mining must help Ghana grow without harming the environment.
