Makurdi Parents Storm School Over Massacre Fears

Parents rushed to Government Special Science Senior Secondary School on Uni Agric Road in Makurdi to take their children home. They fear for student safety after armed herders killed over 200 people in nearby Yelellewata community. The attack happened just twenty minutes away from the school grounds. Families demanded school officials release their kids because of poor security measures. Many parents gathered at the school gates asking for immediate student pickup.

School leaders had already asked the Education Ministry for better protection before classes started this term. Officials sent another request after kidnappers took students from Joseph Tarka University Makurdi nearby. One parent said herders attacked the local community last week and killed several people. The entire area around the school has emptied out since the violence started. Cows graze inside school property because the back fence fell down during recent visits.

Parents want administrators to close the school until security improves in the region. They worry about repeating kidnapping incidents that happened at other schools across Nigeria. The community cannot protect students from armed groups that roam the area freely. School management faces pressure to act quickly before more attacks occur. Safety concerns have reached dangerous levels for both students and teachers.
