Malawi Ministry Warns Against Unauthorized Use of Security Force Uniforms

Malawi officials warn people to stop wearing military and police uniforms without permission. Security Minister Ezekiel Peter Ching'oma said Tuesday that private guards, party members and regular citizens break the law when they dress like official forces. The practice creates safety risks for communities across the nation. Criminal groups might use fake uniforms to trick people during attacks. Four official groups can legally wear these special clothes. The Defense Force, Police Service, Prison Services and Immigration department have exclusive rights to their uniforms. Private companies and political organizations must find different clothing for their workers. Citizens cannot buy or keep these restricted items at home. Anyone caught breaking these rules faces arrest and punishment.

Security teams will take away illegal uniforms from violators starting immediately. The government worries that fake officers might commit serious crimes against innocent people. Real police and military members need public trust to do their jobs properly. False uniforms make it harder for citizens to identify legitimate authorities. Legal action will target everyone who ignores the new enforcement efforts.
